5210 Goes to School
5210 Goes to School is a program availavle to ALL schools aimed at increasing healthy eating and physical activity in the school environment. The program endorses the "5-2-1-0" message, which emphasizes the importance of:
5 or more servings of fruits & vegetables
2 hours or less recreational screen time
1 hour or more of physical activity
0 sugary drinks, more water and low fat milk
Every Day!
Through use of the 5210 Goes to School framework, schools, teachers, nutrition programs, and parents can create a healthier school environment. Schools participate on a voluntary basis. 5210 Goes to School staff work with schools to help them get from where they are to where they want to be while supporting increased physical activity and healthy eating.

All Children Exercising Simultaneously (ACES) Resource Manual
In 2003, the Maine Governor's Council on Physical Activity received funding from the Maine Cardiovascular Health Program, Maine CDC through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to create an ACES Resource Manual. The manual provides planning and program suggestions, promotional materials, materials for students, a history of ACES, nutrition and physical activity resources, and much more. The 73-page manual can be downloaded by clicking on the above link. It is also available in hard copy for $5 each (to help cover postage and handling) by contacting Diane Campbell.
Fuel Up to Play 60
Fuel Up to Play 60 is a school wellness program brought to schools free of charge by the National Dairy Council, Maine Dairy & Nutrition Council and the National Football League. Fuel Up to Play 60 will inspire students to "get up and play" for 60 minutes a day and to "fuel up" with the foods kids don't get enough of - fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lowfat & fat free dairy foods.

Maine-ly Nutrition & Take Time
The Maine-ly Nutrition and Take Time! School Program provides appropriate school personnel with resources and training to deliver effective nutrition education. The program encourages schools to develop policies that create environments, which enable each child to make healthy food and physical activity choices.
Resources available to participating schools: - By participating in this program, you could receive resources totaling $1500 or more that will help your school see the benefits of a healthier school environment.
- The Maine-ly Nutrition and Take Time! School Program will offer:
- A free workshop that includes resources, fun and lively activities, and hands-on support
- $100.00 to spend on nutrition education and physical activity resources for every participating teacher who commits to a minimum of 25 hours per year of nutrition education. Teachers will receive extra funding for additional hours.
- Every participating school that commits to a minimum of 10 minutes per day of physical activity will receive a new CD player and CDs for each classroom.
- An extra $300 for schools that make a school-wide commitment to both nutrition education and physical activity.
Note: Limited resources are available to schools with fewer than 50% of students receiving free and reduced price meals. Resources are offered to these schools on a first come, first served basis.

What's MyPyramid?s an interactive teaching tool/game that conveys and reinforces key concepts of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPyramid Food Guidance System. What's MyPyramid? may be adapted for use with players of all ages and abilities. It has been piloted as part of educational programs with elementary, middle and high school students, young adults and senior citizens. What's MyPyramid? may be used with individuals or with groups of all sizes. There are many ways to use the tool depending upon the participant age, ability, group size and environment. What's MyPyramid? may be borrowed from any county office of University of Maine Cooperative Extension
